WAIT ON THE LORD

Those who follow Jesus often have to wait on Him. We are called to follow Jesus but we cannot go ahead of Him. In the kingdom of God everything happens in His way and in His time. Our faith and dedication will be tested. God often gives us promises and when things do not work out in the way or in the time that we expected, we become disheartened. Some lose faith and they turn away from the Lord. They become resentful towards the Lord.

God promised Abraham that his descendants would be as many as the sand of the sea and the stars, uncountable. At that stage both Abraham and Sarah were old and childless. Sarah was beyond the age of child bearing.

Faith endures. Faith waits on the Lord with expectation. Often believers do not receive, because they are not willing to wait on the Lord.

Jesus commanded His disciples to go to Jerusalem and WAIT for the Holy Spirit, that He had promised, to be given. “1When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. 2And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them. 4And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance.” Acts 2:1-4. The disciples obeyed Jesus. They stayed in Jerusalem and WAITED. They were SITTING, while in prayer and expectation.

The baptism in the Holy Spirit was promised to ALL those who would believe in and receive Jesus. We read in Acts 2:38,39. “Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39“For the promise is for you and your children and for ALL who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself.”

Many are not willing to spend time in prayer and WAIT on the Lord to receive that which was promised.

Jesus speaks. His sheep HEAR His voice and the follow Him, but we need to WAIT on the Lord. We cannot follow Jesus if we do not HEAR Him. We will not HEAR Him if we do not WAIT on Him in prayer.

We read in Hebrews 10:36-39: “36For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised.

      37FOR YET IN A VERY LITTLE WHILE,
            HE WHO IS COMING WILL COME, AND WILL NOT DELAY.

      38BUT MY RIGHTEOUS ONE SHALL LIVE BY FAITH;
            AND IF HE SHRINKS BACK, MY SOUL HAS NO PLEASURE IN HIM.

39But we are not of those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the preserving of the soul.”

Isaiah 40:31 “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

Have we learned to WAIT on the Lord? Do we have the endurance to stay with Jesus, so that when we have done the will of God, we may receive what was promised?

May Jesus bless you.
