We are called, not just to believe in Jesus, but to go after Him and follow Him. We cannot follow after Jesus if we do not first repent from going after sin and our own plans and desires. If we wish to follow Jesus and have eternal life we have to deny ourselves, lay down our own plans and ambitions and put our whole life into obeyance to Jesus.
Before we can follow Jesus, we have accept Him as our Lord and Master and commit to obey Him, to live according to His commandments and instructions, His words as recorded in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. The elementary commandments are: to repent of all sin, be baptized in water, to live holy and to seek the baptism in the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is essential to our relationship with Jesus. Jesus said of the Holy Spirit: ”He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. 14“He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you.” John 16:13-16.
Many believers never obeyed the elementary commandments of Jesus, and have not received the Holy Spirit, that is why they are not led by Him, and cannot follow Jesus to do what is pleasing to Him. They do not have a real relationship with Him.
Those who have received the Holy Spirit must go after Him, seek His guidance in all things, in prayer, waiting on Him for guidance and direction. He will speak to them in their spirit. In all things, we must seek and follow His guidance. The apostles and first followers of Jesus were led by the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit, is Christ in us. We are a temple of the Holy Spirit, but few believers are led by the Holy Spirit. Most are just religious. Christ does not live in them. They are living their lives for their own pleasure. They are believers, but not children of God. “Those who are being led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” Romans 8:14.
Have we advanced beyond the first principles of being a Christian? Have we received Jesus, repented, been baptized in water, received the Holy Spirit? Are we being led by the Spirit of God? Do we go after Jesus every day to seek and follow His guidance? Are we fruitful, obedient children of God?
May Jesus bless you.
