There are many good Christians in this
world but many of them will not enter heaven because they do not love
Jesus. They love being good Christians. They love their image of
being a good Christian, they like doing things for Jesus but they
have no desire to be with Him, to know Him, to hear from Him.
The
good Christians are like Martha that we read of in Luke 10:38-42.
“Now as they were traveling along, He entered a village; and a
woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. 39She had a sister
called Mary, who was seated at the Lord’s feet, listening to His
word. 40But Martha was distracted with all her preparations; and she
came up to Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has
left me to do all the serving alone? Then tell her to help me.”
41But the Lord answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are
worried and bothered about so many things; 42but only one thing is
necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be
taken away from her.”
Only one thing is necessary, and that is
to be with Jesus. Why? Because if we are with Jesus, we will tend to
His words. We will do what He asks us to do and be able to serve Him.
We will learn from Him. We will truly get to know Him and He will
know us.
Martha was so out of touch with the Lord that she started
telling Jesus to correct Mary, while Mary was doing what was pleasing
to Jesus. Martha was a workaholic, a perfectionist. She might have
been more concerned about the dust on the floor than the filth in her
heart. She might have even asked the Lord to wipe His feet before He
came into her house the next time He came around. Martha was more
concerned about her image and correctness, than about being pleasing
to Jesus. She might have been telling Mary to mind her posture and
dignity, not sit on the floor at the Lord’s feet. Martha did not
realize it, but she was a hypocrite. She was self centered. Notice
her self righteousness and selfishness. She says:“Lord, do You not
care that my sister has left me to do all the serving alone? Then
tell her to help me.”
Good Christians are poor servants of the
Lord, because they are concerned about many things, but not concerned
about serving the Lord and catering for His desires. They are
concerned about being right and proper. They are concerned about
their ministry, their image, what other Christians might think or say
of them. Good Christians are more concerned about what the Bible
says, or what they believe it says, than about hearing from Jesus and
doing what He says. They are busy people, hard working,
perfectionists, working for the church, working for the Lord,
studying the Bible, giving money to the church, teaching and
correcting others, doing charity, serving others, but they are not
pleasing to Jesus. They are more worried about other things than
about their relationship with Jesus, just being with Him, waiting on
Him, listening to Him, and being taught by Him.
Good Christians do
not have love. They might say that they are doing things out of love,
but they love their perfection. They do not love Jesus, nor their
fellow men.
Jesus calls us to follow Him, be with Him, obey Him,
serve Him, be taught by Him and to do His will. He want us to love
Him, spend time with Him, love others, and therefor bring them to
Him, so that they can also experience Him. He does not call us to be
good Christians.
Are we good Christians or do we really love and
serve Jesus? Let us spend time with Jesus and ask Him to search our
hearts and show us how He sees us. Let us learn from Him, then we
will be pleasing to Him.
May Jesus bless you.
