The Gospel of Jesus is about GIVING.

God gave LIFE to the world,  by giving Jesus  Christ.  We read in John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He GAVE His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” God SACRIFICED His Son.
Jesus willingly sacrificed Himself, gave up His life, to save the world. If we wish to follow Jesus and have eternal life, then we have to sacrifice ourselves, our own  desires, ambitions, plans, even our life and follow Him. We read in Romans 12:1,2. “Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. 2And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”

We read in 1 Peter 4:1 “Therefore, since Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, 2so as to live the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for the lusts of men, but for the will of God. 3For the time already past is sufficient for you to have carried out the desire of the Gentiles, having pursued a course of sensuality, lusts, drunkenness, carousing, drinking parties and abominable idolatries. 4In all this, they are surprised that you do not run with them into the same excesses of dissipation, and they malign you; 5but they will give account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. 6For the gospel has for this purpose been preached even to those who are dead, that though they are judged in the flesh as men, they may live in the spirit according to the will of God.”
Jesus said: “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. 25“For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. 26“For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 27“For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and WILL THEN REPAY EVERY MAN ACCORDING TO HIS DEEDS.” Matthew 16:24-27.
That is the cost of eternal life, the price that we have to pay to have salvation. Just believing in Jesus will not save us if we do not sacrifice our will, obey Jesus and follow Him until the end.
