Most Christian believers do not know what it means to be a child of God. The apostle Paul wrote in Romans 8:14 “Those who are being led by the Spirit of God, they are the children of God, they are the sons of God.” We do not only need to repent of sin, but we also need to repent of our own ways, our own mind, following our own understanding, and we have to be led by the Holy Spirit. But you cannot be led by the Holy Spirit if you have not been born again and if you have not received the Holy Spirit.
If we do not have the Spirit of Christ then we do not belong to Him. We need to believe in Jesus, and obey Him; repent, turn away from sin, turn away from our own ways, our own mind, our own thinking, and submit ourselves to Jesus Christ, then be baptized in water and seek Jesus with all our heart. He promised to give His Spirit in us, to teach us and to guide us. We cannot serve Jesus and be pleasing to Him if we have not received the Holy Spirit. Most Christian believers do not have the Holy Spirit, they are only religious. They believe in the Bible. The Bible tells us to obey the gospel of Jesus Christ, to repent and be baptized and to be filled with the Holy Spirit, and then to follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
To be a child of God is about our relationship with Jesus Christ. How would we know that we are children of God? How would it be obvious that we are followers of Jesus Christ? If we obey His commandments, if we live according to His words has also recorded in the Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. If we obey Jesus and do as He commanded, He will give His Spirit in us,. He will guide us and He will teach us, and we will serve His kingdom. We will have a new way of living. Our life will be about Jesus Christ and the kingdom of God, doing His will. Even though we are in this world we will not live for the things of this world, we will live for Jesus Christ and for the kingdom of God, for holiness and righteousness and obedience to Jesus Christ.
Most Christian believers do not understand that if you do not know Jesus then you are lost. You have to know Him, follow Him and obey Him, to be part of His kingdom have you become part of the kingdom of God. Have you been filled with the Holy Spirit, and do you follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit every day? Do you understand what it means to be a child of God.
