Jesus came to set the captive free. He came to make us free from those things that hold us back. Quite often we are not willing to let go of those things. The only way that we can go ahead and follow Christ and be what He wants us to be and do what He wants us to do is to let go of those things that are holding us back. Many of us have baggage, pain, sorrow, bitterness, people have wronged us in the past. We have grown up in difficult circumstances and we hold on to that bitterness, the pain, we want to protect ourselves against future pain. We hide, I have been through that. But we must let it go because if we do not let go of that pain and if we try and protect ourselves, we cannot get on. We have to put the burden down, put the baggage down and then Jesus will help us to get on. He invites us He says His yoke is light and His burden is soft. Jesus said we read in Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. 29 “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. 30 “For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
I want to share my experience with you. I went through a situation that when I made my decision for Jesus I changed so much in a short span of time that I did not fit into my previous job anymore. I was not the same fun guy anymore and my boss called me in one day and he said to me: Son you don’t fit in here any more. I want your resignation today. He said: You have changed too much. So I gave him my resignation and I walked out there. After that I had hardship in my life for three and a half years I couldn’t find a job and at times I wondered whether God had left me. I had bitterness in my heart towards my previous boss. But I failed to see the Hand of God in my circumstances. One night I had a dream that I was in a room where this guy also was. I was sitting down but in this dream I stood up, I got up and as I got up I knocked my head on a door frame above my head, it was extremely painful. I remember in this dream I was resenting this guy but then I got up and I knocked my head. I woke up and I realized that Jesus was telling me: “Forget the past, it’s not that fellow. Let go of your baggage, I am your destiny, I am your God. Whatever is in your situation it’s Me get your eyes on Me. The fact that, that guy let you go it’s My Hand you did not fit in there anymore because I changed you. But I have something better for you, but if you don’t let go of the past, if you hang onto your bitterness and your pain, you won’t get your eyes on Me.” I learned a lesson. I realized I could had to let go, forget the past, just get my eyes on Jesus, which I did. When we hang onto the past we still trying to protect ourselves and it is because we don’t trust Jesus.
We must just got to let go and let God have His wonderful way, take the yoke of Jesus on us because He said: Take My yoke upon you and learned from Me for I am gentle and humble in heart and you shall find rest for your soul. For My yoke is easy and My load is light.
So I want to admonish you, put your trust in Jesus, relax, smile and trust God, He is in control. Nothing, can happen to you that Jesus does not allow, if you are following Jesus. If you are a child of God you are not under the dominion of satan anymore, everything that happens to you is by the Hand of God. He makes all things worked together for good for those who loved Him but we have to trust Him. Take His yoke on you, trust Him and He will give you rest for your soul.

Hi Jan, Thank you for this post and the new layout for your website. I found it much easier to seek the topics and to read. This message spoke to me today. I thought much about whether God wanted me to remember my past failures and foolishness so that I will be careful for the future. But you said in this article that Jesus is in control and will make everything work for good. But what about the things we used to do in the past that caused us to stumble and we do them no more, do we not continue to take a stand against those things and ‘be careful’ not to get yoked with bad company etc etc. Don’t we need to judge all things that come our path in whether they be from God or Satan? I would like to hear what you think about this.
We learn through what we suffer. Our past failures serve as school fees so we do not repeat the same mistakes. In all things we must pray and ask Jesus for guidance, then we will avoid much hardship. He gently guides His sheep but we need to willfully follow and seek His guidance.
May Jesus bless you
