Many Christians are fast asleep; they have lost their expectation for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. They have grown weary; they have had their expectations not met. Predictions were made by some people about what would happen next, how prophecy will be fulfilled. They were wide-awake at one stage and they were fearfully waiting on the Lord Jesus Christ, they were ready. But because predictions did not turn out as they expected them to do they have grown cold, they have grown weary, they are not attentive anymore, and they have fallen asleep. We must make sure that we are not caught unawares and that we are not caught fast asleep when our Lord Jesus comes.
We read in Matthew 25 about the parable of the ten virgins, 5 “Now while the bridegroom was delaying, they all got drowsy and began to sleep.” A lot of Christians have become drowsy, they are falling asleep, they are not awake, they are not attentive they are not ready for the coming of the Master. His coming will catch them at a time that they did not expect it. We must make sure that we don’t fall asleep, that we don’t get caught cold at the coming of our Lord. The Lord Jesus warned us, we read in Matthew 24:36-44 where Jesus said in :36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. 37 For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah. 38 For as in those days, which were before the flood they were eating and drinking, they were marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark. 39 and they did not understand until the flood came and took them all away, so shall the coming of the Son of Man be. 40 Then there shall be two men in the field; one will be taken, and one will be left. 41 Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken, and one will be left. 42 Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming. 43 But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what time of the night the thief was coming, he would have been on the alert and would not have allowed his house to be broken into. 44 For this reason you be ready too, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will.”
There are many predictions going around today, many people say another few years, 2012, or whatever, we cannot predict when the Son of Man will come. We cannot predict when our end will come; we cannot predict when we will see Jesus Christ. It is impossible, nobody has ever been able to predict God. We can’t even predict what will happen tomorrow or tonight, even if we plan our life’s it always turns out differently from what we planned and what we thought. Just think back, there’s not one holiday that you planned that ever turned out the way that you thought it would. Even the way that you planned, not even one day of your life, all turns out differently. What makes us think that we can predict the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ? Let us not get into a false sense of security, let us not be asleep, let us not live in a fool’s paradise. But let us be alert and watchful that we are ready when our Lord comes. Let Him find us working, let Him find us praying, waiting on Him so that we will not be disappointed at His coming.
Many will be disappointed, many have grown weary, let it not happened to us, let us be on the alert and wait for the Master at His coming. Let Him find us busy doing His good pleasure, waiting on Him, doing what He wants us to do. The hour is late, He delayed His coming, let us not grow weary. Let us go with everything that we have, put our eyes on Jesus, seek Him, seek Him every hour, day and night. Be on the alert at His coming, so that when He comes He won’t close the door on us and say go away from Me I never knew you.
