Have you ever been told to make up your mind about something? Well, if we want to follow Jesus Christ, if we want to get to heaven, we need to make up our mind about that. We won’t get into heaven in a rocking chair, we won’t get there by chance. Salvation is for free, Jesus paid the price for all mankind, but getting into heaven is a decision of the mind; because Jesus said: If you love Me keep My commandments. He said: Why do you call Me Lord and you do not do as I say? So if we belief in Jesus Christ we’ve got to make up our mind, whether we want to follow Him, whether we want to get into heaven or not. We are not going to get there by chance. We need to commit, we need commit to Jesus Christ, we need to commit to pleasing Him if we want our character changed to be suitable for the kingdom of heaven. Jesus called us to obedience; He called us to be part of His kingdom, to live a life that is pleasing in His sight. If we want to participate, be suitable to go into heaven, we need to make up our mind and follow Him.
Therefore our mind needs to be changed, we read in Romans 12:2 Paul writes: And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.” So we got to prove what is acceptable to God, acceptable to Jesus Christ and we got to do it. We must become people that do, that obey what Jesus Christ wants, if we want to be suitable for His kingdom. If we want to be part of the kingdom of God we got to set our minds on Christ, we got to set our minds on doing that is acceptable to Jesus Christ. We got to listen to His voice, listen to Him speaking in our conscience. We need to obey His Words that are written down in the gospels, that which Jesus commanded us to do. He told His disciples go preach the gospel and to those who belief, baptize them in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost and teach them to observe all the things that I commanded you. That’s what we got to do, we got to set our mind on it, we are not just going to obtain it by thinking about it, by listening about it, by talking about it and even preaching it. We need to set our mind on obedience, on doing what is pleasing in the sight of Christ. Unless we commit to it, it is not possible to please God, we got to commit, change our mind, get our mind changed, get a mind set that is suitable, that wants to please Jesus Christ. If we don’t do that, we can’t please Him. We read in Romans 8:6- 7 “because the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace. 7 because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so.” We got to take ourselves and put ourselves in check and make sure, we must commit to do that which is pleasing to Jesus Christ.
When people do wrong things, it is because they are thinking of it. When people cheat, when they lie, when they steal, it’s pre-meditated. We got to set our mind on Christ, to follow Jesus Christ and to do those things, which are pleasing to Him. We read in Colossians 3:2 “Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.” So if our goal is to be with Jesus Christ, if our goal is to please Him, we got to set our mind on the things that are above not on the things that are on this earth. If we set our minds on these things on this earth these things will carry us away, they will distract us from our goal, which is a life in eternity with Jesus Christ. If our mind is not set on Jesus, if we don’t love Jesus, if we don’t love His ways, there is no way that we will spend eternity with Him. There is no reason why we would, because if we are hostile to Him, if our minds are not set on Jesus, if we are not set on obedience to Jesus Christ. What business do we have in Him? We got no business there, we got to set our minds on Christ and keep ourselves in check and make sure that we keep Jesus in our sights. We must ensure that those things which are pleasing to Him, that they form our entire life. We read in James 1:5- “But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men generously and without reproach and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, 8 being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.” If we want to be stable, we need to be single minded, our mind set on Christ, we got to discipline ourselves, we got to make sure that we do everything we possibly can to please Jesus Christ. The Apostle Peter writes about this in 1 Peter 1:13 “Therefore, gird your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” Jesus didn’t call us to just sit around and to be happy just to rejoice in the fact that He died on Calvary. He called us to dedicate ourselves, to set our minds on Him so that we can listen, so that we can do, obey exactly what Jesus Christ wants us to do. We must with determination pick up our cross every day and follow Jesus Christ and seek and do that which is pleasing in His sight. We must set our mind on Christ, not to just be like Jesus, but to do those things, which are pleasing in His sight.
Jesus came to do that which was pleasing the Father, therefore we need to do what is pleasing in His sight, if we want to share eternity with Him. Let us with determination run this race which is set before us, let us set aside everything but Jesus Christ, let us keep Him in mind let us set our sights on Him, listen to His voice, seek and prove that which is pleasing in His sight in that way we can obtain to this wonderful and glorious prize that He had promised for those who overcome. It is a prize for over comers, not for those who just run along, but those who seek Jesus with all their heart and that serve Him with all their power and love Him with a zeal. Those people will enter the kingdom of heaven not the others, only those who run the race with determination who hold on to Jesus. Let us set our minds on Christ so that we can be transformed so that our minds will carry us into a life that is dedicated to Jesus Christ.
