Many Christians ask this questions about the law, about the Sabbath, about tiding, should we do it. Should a Christian do that? Those are the laws of Moses. Jesus did not come to abolish the law, He came to fulfill the law. Now, that which the law could not do because it was imperfect, Jesus came and He perfected that, He fulfilled the law. He paid the price, because what the law could not do through the offering of lambs and of steers and of pigeons for atonement of sins, that Jesus did. He came and He sacrifice Himself.
But Jesus Christ through a new covenant, He came to take away sin from the world so that if we follow Him, if we obey Him that our conscience will be cleaned. We read in Hebrews 9:11-14 “But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things to come, He entered through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation; 12 and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. 13 For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled, sanctify for the cleansing of the flesh, 14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God.”
Jesus came and He died to cleanse our conscience so that if we are in Him even our conscience is cleansed from sin and unrighteousness. He came so that we can die for ourselves and live a life pleasing to Him. Jesus said: If you love Me, keep My commandments and He was very clear on His commandments. Not only were His commandments recorded in the four gospels, the Words of Jesus Christ. They were also written in our hearts for each of the believers that is a new covenant that He has made with the believer.
Jesus came to do the will of the Father. Therefore His requirement is that we follow Him, and that’s our only way to redemption is that we shall do His will. How will we know His will? We shall know it by the conscience He put inside of us and also if we read in Hebrews 10:16-17 “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws upon their heart, and upon their mind I will write them. 17 And their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”
Jesus promised His Holy Spirit for those who believe, for the disciples. Now a disciple is not just a believer. A disciple is a believer in action, those who believe and obey, they are disciples. Jesus said: Go into all the world and make disciples and teach them to do all these things which I have commanded you. Those who are led by the Spirit of God they are children of God. Then we are not talking about the observance of rules any more because when I observe rules I can justify myself. I can say like the Pharisee, I tithe, I fast, I observe the laws therefore I am justified. We are justified by faith in Jesus Christ. Faith in Jesus Christ leads me to continual repentance of myself and obedience to Jesus Christ. Does Jesus want ten percent of me? No, He wants all of me. What did He say to the rich ruler? He said to him, go sell all that you got, give it to the poor, come here and follow Me. That is much more severe than just the law, which says ten percent. The law says an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. What did Jesus say? He says vengeance is Mine, I shall recompense. He says if they strike you on the one cheek you give them the other too. If they take your top clothing, you give them the under clothing as well. We live in obedience to Jesus Christ, not one day of the week, not the Sabbath only, but every minute of my live.
Jesus said, whoever follows Me and looks back and turns around and whoever puts his hand to the plough and looks back is not worthy of the kingdom of God, why? Jesus wants me to follow Him twenty-four hours of every day, every day, every moment, Jesus must be the King of my life. He is the King of the kingdom of heaven and if I am part of the kingdom of heaven as He said to Nicodemus as we read it in John 3, He said you cannot see the kingdom of God if you are not born of water and of Spirit. Why? I have to be baptized into His death so that I can rise up into His life so that I can be led and be guided by His Holy Spirit every moment of my life. Then only do I see the kingdom of God, why? I’m guided not by the rule of the law, not by keeping a Sabbath, not by observing certain rules, not by justifying myself because I keep the rules or I do not keep the rules. It is because I am doing what is pleasing in the sight of Jesus Christ. Jesus said about God the Father, we read in Hebrews 10:5-7 “Therefore when He comes into the world, He says, sacrifice and offering Thou hast not desired, but a body Thou hast prepared for Me; 6 In whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin Thou hast taken no pleasure. 7 Then I said, behold, I have come in the roll of the book it is written of Me. To do Thy will, O God.”
What is Jesus’s calling us for? To do His will. How shall we do His will? By being guided by His Holy Spirit, He put His laws inside our hearts. We know what is right and we know what is wrong. We know when we violate the Holy Spirit, when we grieve the Holy Spirit. Therefore I go to Jesus Christ and I repent of my sins the moment I do anything wrong. If this relationship between Christ and me is soiled, how do I get it right? Through prayer, through coming to Him and saying Lord Jesus forgive me please, cleanse me by Your precious blood. I want to walk in Your Light, I want nothing to be between myself and You. Then I am guided by the Holy Spirit. If there is any sin in my life, king David said: If I had iniquity in my heart God would not listen to my prayer. Therefore I come to Jesus Christ and I serve Him with a clear conscience. How do I get my conscience clear? By continuous cleansing of my conscience by living in His presence, continuously praying by obeying Him, by listening to His Holy Spirit, by getting to know His voice. He said: Me and My Father will come and live with you and I will reveal My self to you. Is it by a book of rules? No, is it written in the Bible, Yes it is but you know how I understand what is written in the Bible? It is when the Spirit of God lives in my heart and my dependence is on Jesus Christ and His Spirit living inside of me then He makes all things clear to me.
He said He will send His Spirit to come and live in us and it will remind us of the things Jesus said, and will also tell us the things to come. Those who are guided by the Spirit of God, they are children of God. John the Baptist said that those who believe have the power to become children of God. When am I a child of God? When I am guided by the Holy Spirit and when I have a relationship with Jesus Christ, when I am guided by Him twenty-four-hours out of every day. It’s not through the observance of rules. Merely a Sabbath is not enough, observing rules does not put me in the right standing with Jesus Christ. What puts me in the right stand with God through Jesus Christ is total and utter obedience to His Holy Spirit indwelling me. And if I don’t have His Holy Spirit in me I must repent and ask Him to put His Holy Spirit in me to guide me into all truth so that I can truly be a son of God, a child of God, that is the only way that I can become part of the kingdom of God and that I have a hope of glory with Jesus Christ, when I love Him so much that He becomes more than any thing in my life. It’s not through the observance of rules, it’s not through readings and teachings and anything like that. But only through Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit indwelling me, guiding me to all truth to do His perfect will. I find that nowhere else, but through Jesus Christ alone and through a relationship closely with my King and Master because I love Him and because He cares for me, because His Spirit guides me and because I listen to Him, will fully. I am a bondservant to the King of kings and the Lord of lords. That is what I should do.
