We read about this in Romans 2:14-16 “For when Gentiles who do not have the Law do instinctively the things of the Law, these, not having the Law, are a law to themselves, 15 in that they show the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness and their thoughts alternately accusing or else defending them, 16 on the day when, according to my gospel, God will judge the secrets of men through Christ Jesus.”
We can all justify ourselves. If you ask a person about whether he is guilty or not he can tell you yes I am guilty or not. People will be partial to themselves for their own benefit but your conscience knows and God knows the truth. It is also written that if your conscience condemns you God, is greater than your conscience. We cannot get past our conscience. We read in Hebrews 8:10-12 “FOR THIS IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL AFTER THOSE DAYS, SAYS THE LORD: I WILL PUT MY LAWS INTO THEIR MINDS, AND I WILL WRITE THEM ON THEIR HEARTS. AND I WILL BE THEIR GOD, AND THEY SHALL BE MY PEOPLE. 11 AND THEY SHALL NOT TEACH EVERYONE HIS FELLOW CITIZEN, AND EVERYONE HIS BROTHER, SAYING, ‘KNOW THE LORD,’ FOR ALL WILL KNOW ME, FROM THE LEAST TO THE GREATEST OF THEM. 12 FOR I WILL BE MERCIFUL TO THEIR INIQUITIES, AND I WILL REMEMBER THEIR SINS NO MORE."
The Lord has put in each human being a conscience we cannot avoid. The only way to be united with God is through Jesus with a clean conscience. How do we get our conscience clean? There is only one remedy, the only one way that our conscience can be cleansed and that is through the Blood of Jesus Christ. We read in Hebrews 9:13-14 “For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled sanctify for the cleansing of the flesh, 14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
Note that only the Blood of Christ can cleansed our conscience. The only way that we can maintain a clear conscience is through Jesus Christ. Salvation is through Jesus Christ for every one, the only way. That is why Jesus Christ is the way, the truth and the life; and nobody, but nobody comes to the Father but through Jesus Christ, that is why we need to know Jesus, why we need to have a relationship with Jesus Christ. No knowledge of the Bible, no knowledge of anything else will cleanse me, only Jesus Christ. The Bible leads me to the knowledge of Jesus Christ. Inside of you and inside of me God has put a conscience and that conscience is the honest broker. It either defend us or it accuses us and we can’t cheat on it. The only way to cleanse it is to come to Jesus Christ, to come and bow down before the throne of Almighty God, Jesus Christ, the cross of Calvary. Only the Blood of Jesus Christ can cleanse a conscience, nothing but nothing else. And it needs to stay clean and the only way I can stay clean is by staying with Jesus by staying in the Light. We read in John 3:18-19 “He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil.”
Our sins and our iniquities become a wall separation between us and God. The only one who can break that down is Jesus Christ. The only way we can remain clean is through a relationship with Jesus Christ. But if we willfully sin there is no redemption because Jesus knows the intentions of our hearts. He knows what is inside of us. He will forgive us if we come to Him with an honest heart. If we come to Him and we are not serious, if we come a second and third time we do not reject sin He won’t forgive us. We read about it in Hebrew 10:19-20 and 26-31 “Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh, 26 For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a terrifying expectation of judgment and THE FURY OF A FIRE WHICH WILL CONSUME THE ADVERSARIES. 28 Anyone who has set aside the Law of Moses dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29 How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know Him who said, "VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY " And again, "THE LORD WILL JUDGE HIS PEOPLE." 31 It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”
Christians who keep on sinning are crucifying Jesus Christ again; once again they are trampling underfoot the Blood of Christ. The Blood of Christ does not cleanse us for eternity it cleanses us as long us we remain in the Light. Jesus knows the intentions of our heart. The only way that we maintain a clean conscience is through walking in humbleness before the Lord our God. If we slip if we fall He will help us. If you have sin in your heart, if there is a division between you and God, if your conscience is soiled; don’t run away, come to Jesus, never run away, always come back to Jesus no matter what happens, come to Jesus. He is the only one who can clear your conscience. All your and my sins are written on our conscience our conscience will be rolled out, opened up before the throne of God, that is the book of your and my sins. That is the book of remembrance of what we have done. The only way that that book can be cleared is through the Blood of Jesus Christ. When we come to Him He can clear our conscience. It is no good if we choke our conscience, it won’t go away. We must bring our conscience to Jesus Christ and ask Him to clean it, to keep it clean. Stay at His throne stay in the light so that His Light can shine on us so that His light can come into our conscience and open it up. If there are dirty specks, we repent, we fix up that we maintain a clear conscience. That is why there is no other way to come to the Father except through Jesus Christ, because only Jesus can clear our conscience. That is what we need to be able to be united with God to spend eternity in His presence with Jesus Christ, a clear conscience. Lets us find a clear conscience in Jesus Christ our Lord, through His Blood, through Calvary. Only through a relationship with Jesus can we maintain a clear conscience and go before the Father throne of mercy and pray with an open heart.
